Assignment 5
My purpose is for someone to create a formal textas a summary. How you write a formal text can be hard when it is about an every-day-topic. I think it is importent to be able to select the most importent facts and parts in a text, from a book or a movie and make the most of as few words as possible.
The person who did my assignment did a perfectly fine work. The result of what has been writen was good and interesting to read. Not to long and with clear and understandeble writing.
I chose to do a assignment there I was supose to write about an article that I found useful in my future role as a techer. I wrote about - Fun projects teching geography for kids and you can find my answer to the assignment in an previous blog post below. I liked to write this one becouse I thought it was a good way to combine practising to write a formal text and at the same time learn someting more to extand my knowledge about different teching methods.

Assignment 4
Article: Fun projects teaching geography for kids.
In this article you get a good exercis presented in an easy way.It is about geography and how the pupils can make their own 3-D map. It is a so called hands-on art project.
The pupils get to team up in pairs or more, to create three dimensional maps that show a bird´s eye view. This map can be a creation of any geographic region you may like to work with.
THis is what you need; a piece of plain masonite approximately 24 * 48 inches, modeling clay, a set of acrylic paints, brushes and a map of your region.
Before you let them do their own map use the map to show the pupils how they read it, explain how to find lakes and rivers or mountains. Give the pupils a basic visual tour. Let them know how to translate this map into a 3-D picture with modeling clay and then paint their map.
A great tip that the writer gives us is that you can use craft sticks to put scores in the mountains and rivers to demonstrate the unevenness of actual terrain and moveing water. The main point of this exercis is to show geographic variances which i think he succeeds to do.
After reading this article a have learnd a new way to make a geography lesson more interesting and that this type of exercis can appeal to many different types of pupils. The pupils are given a chans to look at a map from all angels and se that one mountain is higer then another, without it showing on a ordenary map.

Summarising.
You are going to write a short summary of an article, a movie or a book you like or don´t like.
The assignment shall contain the following items:
- A summary for approximately 200 words
- Write, why you have selected this particular article, movie or book, and explain why you like it or do not like it. Maximum 200 words.
This is suppose to be a practise, to recognise the most significant in a text or story, and be able to retell it in a short version. Think about the way you write and how you put the sentence together.
Good luck!

Protect the Mosquito/Argumentation
The Mosquito is a small insect, that's mainly lives in the forest or near the waterfront. They are food for all the beautiful birds an lives mostly very short lives. They live in flock, together, and there main task in life is to breed the prosperity.
There are those who want to kill all Mosquito's because of the mosquito bites, that's itching, but I say; protect them! They are tiny and defenseless, the only harm they bring us humans are just a little scratching. Wasp, on the other hand I understand because they can kill us with there poison.
Others believe the Mosquito's has an annoying sound, like a buzz, and this small silly sound makes people crazy. I say; it´s sweet music in my ears, and the sound remind me of warm summer days and delightful evenings.
If you and your colleges and friends believe the same as we do, come and support the fight of mosquito´s survival. We accumulate in The Garden of Flowers, Friday at 8 p.m, the 21 of July.
Welcome!
Sincerely
Linda

Informal and formal writing
Example for informal writing:
You know that book I wrote? Well, the publishing company rejected it. They thought it was awful. But hey, I did the best I could, and I think it was great. I´m not gonna redo it the way they said. (http://ezinearticles.com, 2010-04-20)
Example for formal writing:
It will be argued that the benefits of immigration outweigh the disadvantages. (http://www.ncistudent.net/studyskills/Writingskills/ , 2010-04-20)
Guidelines to informal writing:
- May use slang or exclamation makes (!).
- Use abbreviated words (photo, TV etc.).
- Use contractions (can´t, won´t etc).
- Address the text (you, your, yours etc).
- Use short or simple sentences.
- Use colloquial words/expressions like guy, kid, awesome, awful etc.
Guidelines to formal writing:
- Focus on the issue, not the writer.
- Use longer and more complex sentences.
- Use full versions of words (photograph, television etc).
- Write out full words (cannot, will not etc).
- Write to a large audience, no specific address (the reader, one etc).
- Avoid colloquial words/expressions and write instead boy, children, wonderful etc.
My own topic: Volcanic eruptions
Formal: A volcanic eruption has occurred on the island of Iceland, west of Sweden, last week. All plane traffic across Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the United Kingdom has been cancel, so there is no traffic in the air. All tourists there are on vacation have a hard time to come home. Many people has been forced to remain there they are and wait for the eruptions to subside.
Informal: O my God! A terrible thing has happened, thousands and thousands of holidaymakers are stuck. On Iceland there has been a volcanic eruption and no play´s are flying over Sweden, Denmark, Norway or the UK. So no one can come home! It can take weeks and weeks before the plain´s are up and running again. A car drive from Greece to Sweden takes a while to finish but i an option.
That´s that for today and this week. /L
