Assignment 4

I have done Anna H:s assignment;

Article: Fun projects teaching geography for kids.
In this article you get a good exercis presented in an easy way.It is about geography and how the pupils can make their own 3-D map. It is a so called hands-on art project.

The pupils get to team up in pairs or more, to create three dimensional maps that show a bird´s eye view. This map can be a creation of any geographic region you may like to work with.
THis is what you need; a piece of plain masonite approximately 24 * 48 inches, modeling clay, a set of acrylic paints, brushes and a map of your region.

Before you let them do their own map use the map to show the pupils how they read it, explain how to find lakes and rivers or mountains. Give the pupils a basic visual tour. Let them know how to translate this map into a 3-D picture with modeling clay and then paint their map.

A great tip that the writer gives us is that you can use craft sticks to put scores in the mountains and rivers to demonstrate the unevenness of actual terrain and moveing water. The main point of this exercis is to show geographic variances which i think he succeeds to do.

After reading this article a have learnd a new way to make a geography lesson more interesting and that this type of exercis can appeal to many different types of pupils. The pupils are given a chans to look at a map from all angels and se that one mountain is higer then another, without it showing on a ordenary map.
